A most recent episode of This Week in Law discussed How to write the nastiest copyright notice possible. This concerns Paul Zukofsky, son of authors Louis and Celia Zukofsky, and his attempt to exert extreme control over his parents’ work using a very narrow interpretation of fair use. As noted here, “Among its finer moments is one passage in which he plainly discourages the reader from studying his father’s works and another in which he threatens to sue graduate students who do not heed his warning.” The full text of the note is reproduced here. Deven Desai, in Ozymandias Lessons for Copyright, provides further criticism of Paul Zukofsky’s position.
