Best Buy Sends NewEgg Cease & Desist Letter For Using The Term ‘Geek’

As noted on 404TechSupport, NewEgg has a funny commercial (see below) mocking Best Buy’s “Geek Squad” and proposing their online service is better.

Naturally, Best Buy wants to use IP law–in this case, trademark–to censor their competition. They had their lawyers send a cease and desist letter to NewEgg, saying that because Best Buy has a trademark on “Geek Squad,” NewEgg may not use the word “Geek” in its recent campaign with the phrase “Geek On” and “Take It From A Geek”.
